WordPress has become one of the biggest blogging platforms making it also vulnerable to cyber-attacks, hence, the need to keep your website safe. At FDS, we understand how important it is for your site to be secure and we have systems in place that inform our clients of any potential security issues.  We present to you three common security vulnerabilities & how to avoid and fix them.

  1. UNSAFE PLUGIN

Plugins often present with glitches that can make your website vulnerable to hackers.  To prevent this, you need to update your plugins regularly. If you’re our client at FDS, we have developed processes to take care of this for you. If while performing an update there’s a plugin with a potential threat, our engineers automatically revert it to the old version until the update is patched.

  1. DEFAULT ADMIN USER ACCOUNT OR DEFAULT PASSWORDS

Are you still using the login that came with WordPress when you installed it? Do you still use the default username and password to access your website? It is necessary to change it as soon as possible.

FDS always recommends you purposely change the username to be more complicated. We often use a 13+ character password that is exclusive for each of our clients’ websites. When we give our clients access to a newly created site, we also encourage them to get a new password that is more secure immediately after their first sign-in. If you are one of the many people who have a struggle remembering passwords, try to use a safe password bank such as LastPass.

  1. UNSAFE HOSTING SERVERS

Knowing fully well that the server where your WordPress website is hosted is under constant threat from attackers, using low-quality hosting services can mean your site is less safe and has a higher chance of being vulnerable or being compromised. Even though many hosts take precautions to protect their servers, not all hosting providers are conscious enough to implement up to date security precautions to safeguard websites on the server-level.

We often (every 24 hours) run scans of our servers to ensure that our client sites are safe and secure. If a possible threat is detected the system alerts us immediately during the scan & we take every necessary action to ensure that the sites are not affected.
